What is the difference between of the T5 and T6 temper?

The cooling time using air cooling is longer, usually 2-3 days, which we call natural aging; while the water cooling time is shorter, which we call artificial aging.The main difference between T5 and T6 state is in the strength, the strength of T6 state is higher than that of T5 state, and the performance in other aspects is similar. In terms of price, because of the difference in the production process, the price per ton of T6 state aluminum is about 3,000 yuan higher than T5 state.
Overall, both are a heat treatment, T5 is formed by high temperature and air-cooled quenching in the shortest possible time for artificial aging, T6 is solid solution treatment after artificial aging. T6 aluminum water-cooled form of aging is shorter, after molding the surface of the profile is more precise (so some brands call T6 profile for "high precision aluminum"), Wechsler Hardness is also higher.
