Differences between 5052 and 5083 aluminum plate
Both the 5052 aluminum plate and the 5083 aluminum plate belong to the 5-series aluminum-magnesium alloy, but their magnesium contents are different, and other chemical components are also slightly different.
Their chemical compositions are as follows:
5052 Si 0+ Fe0.45 Cu0.1 Mn0.1 Mg2.2-2.8 Cr0.15-0.35 Zn 0.1
5083 Si 0.4 Fe0.4 Cu0.1 Mn0.3-1.0 Mg4.0-4.9 Cr 0.05-0.25 Zn 0.25
The differences in chemical compositions of the two result in their varied developments in mechanical performances. 5083 aluminum plate is much stronger than the 5052 aluminum plate in either tensile strength or yield strength. Different chemical substance compositions lead to different mechanical equipment performance, and different mechanical product properties also lead to different uses of the relationship between the two.
5052 alloy aluminum plate has good forming processability, corrosion resistance, candleability, fatigue strength and moderate static strength. It is used to manufacture aircraft fuel tanks, fuel pipes, and sheet metal parts for transportation vehicles and ships, instruments, street lamp brackets and rivets, hardware products etc. Many manufacturers claim that 5052 is a marine grade aluminum plate. In fact, this is not accurate. The commonly used marine aluminum plate is 5083. The corrosion resistance of 5083 is stronger and it is more suitable for use in harsh environments. It is used for applications requiring high corrosion resistance, good weldability and medium strength, such as ships, automobiles and aircraft plate welded parts; pressure vessels, cooling devices, TV towers, drilling equipment, transportation equipment, missile components and so on.
